We made 94 sets of stationery over the past week so we'll be donating $94 to Angels' Arms. Angels' Arms is a private, not-for-profit organization that receives no federal, state or United Way funding, yet provides love, security and hope for foster children in 6 loving homes in the greater St. Louis area. You can learn more about Angels' Arms at: http://www.angelsarms.org/
Here's a few photos of the stationery process.

Thumbprint Stationery
We've been making stationery all week. The students enjoyed creating birds, spiders, and fish with their thumbprints. We sold 89 sets of stationery so we're donating $89 to Angels' Arms, a local foster home. Thanks so much for your generosity.

Thumbprint Stationery
We worked hard this afternoon making thumbprint stationery. Your child brought home a sample set of stationery. We're selling the stationery and all the money will go to Angels' Arms, a local foster home. I'll post pictures of the stationery on Monday. Have a great weekend!

Science Fun
Remember the earlier post on changing the shape of rocks? Well I put together this video to show the process. First we took a sugar cube and put it in a clear plastic container. Each student had some time to shake the container. When we opened the container, the sugar cube was now round and the container was filled with bits or "rock". This activity shows how rocks change. Check out this video: Science Fun
Powell Hall Field Trip Today
We had fun at Powell Hall today. First we took a tour of Powell Hall and then we were on stage making music. We learned about percussion instruments. The students each had an instrument that they could shake, scrape or strike. Ask your child about the day and check out the video link called Making Music at Powell Hall.

Science Fun
We had fun with a science experiment today. First we looked closely at a sugar cube. We put the sugar cubes in a jar. We shook the jar for two minutes and then we opened the jar and looked at our cubes with a hand lens. The cubes were now round like a sphere. The corners of the sugar cube were gone! There was a lot of sugar grains left in the jar. The sugar cubes were like rocks and we learned that weather can change the shape of rocks! The students wanted to take home the sugar cubes so they are in little ziploc bags to show you!
This entry is in the students own words! Ask them to tell you more about it.

Pumpkin Fun
We carved a pumpkin today. Of course, we had some fun measuring it before we opened it up and counted the seeds. The pumpkin is 15 inches tall and the stem was 4 inches. We measured the circumference and it is 30 inches around. After estimating, we counted all the seeds and there were 434 seeds inside our pumpkin. We talked about what to do with the seeds and we decided to save them until spring time and plant the seeds. Then everyone can take home a pumpkin plant to grow their own pumpkin next year.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank-you for attending conferences. I have a great bunch of students this year and it's nice to meet and talk with parents.
Powell Hall
We enjoyed our trip to Powell Hall today. Bobby Norfolk was the storyteller and we all enjoyed acting like conductors during the music program. Ask your child about the trip.

Our Zoo Trip
A few weeks ago, our class went to the zoo. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time learning about animals. We were very excited to see a baby donkey in the Children's Zoo. We saw the a baby lion in Big Cat Country. It was a fun day of learning. I put the photos together into a video. I hope you all enjoy it.
