Fun on the Last Day

After making Father's Day cards, we played a couple Minute to Win It games.  We were invited to watch the Hula Dancers with the kindergarten classes.  We're going to have Popsicles in a bit and then say goodbye.  I'm really going to miss your adorable children.  I feel blessed to have been their teacher this year.  Have a great summer.

End of the Year Fun

On Monday, we made ice cream in a bag.  With the best intentions, it should have been fun and good tasting, however, it was not!  On Tuesday, we had fun with bubbles.  The students had a lot of fun!  Today, we made paper airplanes and had a race.  The top 3 winners of each class then had another race.  Lots of fun!  All week we have been working on our School Memories book and today we finished the book with autographs.  Tomorrow we're making Father's Day cards and a few Minute to Win It games.  We've had a great year together and I have loved being your child's teacher.  Have a great summer.

Simple Machines

We're learning about simple machines this week.  The students have learned about levers, inclined planes, wedges, and a screw so far.  Tomorrow the students will be learning about the wheel and axle and the pulley.  They've enjoyed the activities that show how simple machines make work easier.  Here are a few photos.  have your child explain what they did.

Michael Rex Made Lucas into a Comic Book Character

As part of our author visit with Michael Rex, he asked for a volunteer from the audience. We were so excited that Lucas was chosen. Lucas had to stand still and hold the pose a long time while Michael Rex drew him. We were all pretty impressed with the whole process. I think you'll like it too! I took 6 video clips to show the process. Watch them in order so the whole process makes sense.

Photo Journals

The students enjoyed reading their photo journals this afternoon.  It was a great way to end our Literacy Festival Day. A special thanks to my parent volunteers who typed some of the stories. Hope you all enjoy them!

Guest Storyteller - Mrs. Nelson-Linck

Our last stop today is the library for a story. Since our day has a baseball theme,  Mrs. Nelson-Linck told us about the Negro Leagues from long ago.  She went on to read a story of Toni Stone a woman who played baseball In the Negro Leagues.  Ask your child about  the story.

More on Michael Rex

Michael Rex showed us how he illustrates.  First he needed a student model and lucky for us, he chose Lucas.  So Lucas stood just a Mr Rex showed him and he began to draw. I hope to post a link to the video of him drawing Lucas later today.  Some students brought books to be autographed too.  Here are a few pictures:

Author Visit - Michael Rex

The author Michael Rex told us how books are made.  He started with how to get ideas for books. They loved when he told them how he got great titles for his books.  He told them when you're writing a book, you "keep on writing again and again, and again" to make it the best book it can be.  He showed them how he illustrates his books.
He talked about how he makes his graphic novels like Fang Bone.
