Magic House Field Trip

The students had a great time at the Magic House.  They all worked very hard at their job site. The postal workers delivered the mail and other letters. When they took breaks, they had to cash their paychecks at the bank.  Then off they went to the market, restaurant, library, service center and ranger station.  Many students stopped by the Electric Company, the house, and the hospital.  It was a very busy community.
After working in the community, the students created a budget for their family.  We sure had a lot of fun while learning about "Working".

Junior Achievement Lesson

Mr. Shelton is teaching the Junior Achievement lesson on Our Community.  The students were very excited today because they made "donuts".  They tried "unit" production and "assembly line" production to see which was the best way to make "donuts".  It was fun and the students enjoyed eating real donuts provided by Mr. Shelton.
We're getting ready for our Magic House field trip.  Every student filled out a job application and after looking at the applications, they were assigned a job.  The students made their photo ID cards today so they can "cash" their paychecks.  Your child needs to bring a wallet, purse, or fanny pack to the field trip on January 24th so they have a place to keep the "money" they earn from their job.

Stationery Update

We made 94 sets of stationery over the past week so we'll be donating $94 to Angels' Arms.  Angels' Arms is a private, not-for-profit organization that receives no federal, state or United Way funding, yet provides love, security and hope for foster children in 6 loving homes in the greater St. Louis area.  You can learn more about Angels' Arms at: http://www.angelsarms.org/

Here's a few photos of the stationery process.

Thumbprint Stationery

We've been making stationery all week.  The students enjoyed creating birds, spiders, and fish with their thumbprints. We sold 89 sets of stationery so we're donating $89 to Angels' Arms, a local foster home.  Thanks so much for your generosity.

Thumbprint Stationery

We worked hard this afternoon making thumbprint stationery.  Your child brought home a sample set of stationery.  We're selling the stationery and all the money will go to Angels' Arms, a local foster home.  I'll post pictures of the stationery on Monday.  Have a great weekend!
