Sound

We've started our next unit in science and the students are enjoying learning about sound. Today the students used rulers and pushed on the ruler and they were making sounds. The students could see the rulers vibrating and they could hear the sound too. The lesson showed students that the sound stops when the vibration stops.

Measuring Capacity and Weight

We've been measuring capacity and weight.  The students have learned that 2 cups = 1 pint, 2 pints = 1 quart, 4 quarts = 1 gallon.  The students made booklets to help them.  We also used scales and measured in ounces and pounds.  The students showed what they learned by using the iPads and making a StoryKit.  Follow the links to see their stories.

Have a great weekend.

Updated Class Website

I updated my website to include links to useful websites like Xtramath, KidBlog, Spelling City, Moby Max and links to our online textbooks.  The links are still on our Class Moodle, but I know some students have had trouble accessing the Moodle.
The students have been using Moby Max in class and I'm sending the log in information home with the report cards on Friday.

Measuring with Balance Scales

The students used balance scales today to measure the weight of different objects around the room. They had to decide whether it was better to use cubes or paper clips. Here's a few pictures of us in action.

Measuring Unit

We are learning about measuring in math. We used beans, cups and spoons to measure different containers. The students used Storykit on the iPads to show what they're learning about measuring. The students learned about cups, pints, quarts, and gallons today. When shopping or cooking point out these units of measure. Here's a few pictures of the students using Storykit to show what they know.
