The students enjoyed reading their photo journals this afternoon. It was a great way to end our Literacy Festival Day. A special thanks to my parent volunteers who typed some of the stories. Hope you all enjoy them!

Guest Storyteller - Mrs. Nelson-Linck
Our last stop today is the library for a story. Since our day has a baseball theme, Mrs. Nelson-Linck told us about the Negro Leagues from long ago. She went on to read a story of Toni Stone a woman who played baseball In the Negro Leagues. Ask your child about the story.
More on Michael Rex
Michael Rex showed us how he illustrates. First he needed a student model and lucky for us, he chose Lucas. So Lucas stood just a Mr Rex showed him and he began to draw. I hope to post a link to the video of him drawing Lucas later today. Some students brought books to be autographed too. Here are a few pictures:
Author Visit - Michael Rex
The author Michael Rex told us how books are made. He started with how to get ideas for books. They loved when he told them how he got great titles for his books. He told them when you're writing a book, you "keep on writing again and again, and again" to make it the best book it can be. He showed them how he illustrates his books.
Literacy Festival
We are celebrating literacy today. We started the day with a book pick and reading time. Everyone was able to pick two books to keep. One book was on or near their reading level and the other book was a just for fun book. After choosing our books, the students had time to read at our Outdoor Learning Space. Check out a few pictures.

Opinion Writng
We've read several Lola and Charlie books by Lauren Child. After reading each book, the students wrote a summary. Then after reading all of the books, the students wrote an opinion paper about their favorite Charlie and Lola books. The students worked on starting their story with a good lead, having 3 reasons to support their opinion and have a good ending. I think they turned about great. Check out our writing.
