The students wrote how to make s'mores the week before spring break and the entire time we were all getting a craving for s'mores. After we all finished we used the microwave instead of roasting and made s'mores! They were so good. Check out our writing!

Inches, Feet and Yards
The students have been measuring everything in the room. We've been talking about measuring with accuracy by lining up the ruler or yardstick at the end of the object to measure. The students enjoyed using the Activotes to complete a self paced measurement hunt. The last two days we've been making reasonable estimates and this is hard for some students. One question about how long is your bed was tricky for some. The choices were 5 inches, 5 feet, or 5 yards and some students thought 5 yards was the best answer. We've really been trying to show what that would looks like and students have to do that thinking to figure out the correct answer. We've reviewed today and the test is tomorrow.

How To Paragraphs
This week the students wrote How To Paragraphs. The students tried to get in all the details. Check out a few of their paragraphs.
Measuring Unit
We started our measuring unit by reading "How Big is a Foot?" Ask your child about the story. The students then drew around their own foot and began measuring with footprints or paper clips. Students learned that it's easier to measure big things with footprints and small things with paper clips. On Friday, the students started measuring in inches.
Math With Educreations
Earlier in the week, we reviewed patterns by students making patterns with pattern blocks and showing what they learned on Educreations with the iPads. The students enjoyed showing what they learned by making their own lesson. When everyone finished we were able to see and hear their lesson on Educreations.com

Dr. Seuss Opinion Writing
We've read several Dr. Seuss books and the students chose their favorite and had to write about why it was their favorite. They had to use evidence from the text. The students worked in partners to edit and here's a few finished papers.
Geometry
We've been learning about plane shapes and solid shapes. With the solid shapes, we've been counting faces, edges, and vertices. We've been using pattern blocks to build other plane shapes. For example, students can use 6 triangles to make a hexagon. This week the students learned about congruent shapes and symmetry. Yesterday, the students learned about slides, flips, and turns. As part of this geometry unit, the students have been showing what they've learned with StoryKit. Check out one of the projects by following the link below.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss
Last week we read several Dr. Seuss books and today we started writing an opinion paper on our favorite book. The students have to use details from their favorite story to support their opinion. I also found a Cat camera and took pictures of all the students. Check out their cute faces.
Science News
The students learned that matter changes. We took muffin mix and added water. We put the dough into muffin cups and we baked them. The students noticed that the size, color, texture, and shape changed on the muffins. Of course, after they cooled we ate the new matter! The students have enjoyed this chapter! We reviewed today in class on Wednesday and Thursday and the test was Friday. I've graded the tests and they'll be coming home tomorrow.
